Holiday Shopping on the “FLY”

45% of the work force regularly travels for business. That means that thousands of us, myself included, are racing through airports around the holidays with full Christmas lists. This holiday season is a particularly busy travel time for me. Until tonight I was worrying about how I was going to get all my shopping done. Then it occurred to me – many terminals are now like small shopping malls. The quality and variety of shopping is unique and affordable.
On a recent trip to San Francisco, I zipped though security and realized I had a good hour plus before my boarding time. This was the perfect time to tackle my holiday shopping list. To my surprise, the variety of items and price points had something for everyone on my list.
Here’s what I found:
For a simple and affordable gift that packs a punch, consider a magazine subscription. A dear friend loves anything Hollywood. A subscription to Entertainment Weekly is the ideal gift for her. Magazine subscriptions range from $10 – $40 for a year’s subscription and keep giving all year long, one week at a time.
Health “nuts” on your list will love tracking their progress on the latest from Fitbit. Gifts that are “health-ful” as well as thoughtful are the perfect way to show someone how much you care.
If there is a traveler on your shopping list, the latest Bose noise cancellation headphones are the perfect gift. I use mine all the time. The gift that keeps on giving! Price: $199
The universal wallet, that acts as a cell phone case and wallet in one is a practical gift that helps combine two needs in one. Price $49
Consider a gift certificate for the weary traveler in your family. A gift certificate from Xpress Spa, which has locations in most United States airports is the ideal way for a busy traveller to take a moment for themselves while on the road. Price range: $50 – $200.
With the recent success of the Broadway, smash hit Hamilton, the biography by Ron Chernow has been flying off the shelves. The history buff on your holiday list will find this the perfect and thoughtful gift. If history is not the thing for your recipient, head the other direction and pick up a copy of Amy Schumer’s latest book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo. Hilarious as always! Price $19.99
I find that my overseas friends love logo items such as t-shirts and ball caps, Ghirardelli Chocolates and even a fun “city centric” gift for baby are also good ideas for them. Price $12.99
If all else pales, how about a stunning, vintage Harley? Price upon request.
These are just a few of the endless ideas I received while poking around San Francisco International Airport. The stores in airports have developed a genius way of hitting all price points, which makes this shopping destination ideal for everyone on your list. Of course, this means you may want to take an extra suitcase with you. #checkedbaggagefee 🙁
